Write to Educate Internship

Accepting applications for 2025 cohort

The Write to Educate Program is a unique, fully remote internship for emerging voices who are passionate about storytelling, civic engagement and social impact. This program is designed for early-career writers who want to create powerful articles that educate young people about policy and help increase political literacy.

Editorial themes

The internship will focus on producing pieces that educate, challenge assumptions, and promote deep understanding of otherwise complex topics, all grounded in research and original insight. Writers will explore a range of thematic areas designed to increase political and civic literacy among young people in the following themes:

  • Political systems and global perspectives: Educating on how governments and institutions operate around the world, offering comparative insights in civic participation, political structures and individual engagement across the different systems.
  • Economic policies and everyday life: Educating readers on complex economic issues, such as the cost of living, housing and employment policies.
  • Media and digital literacy: Analysing how the media landscape, with an emphasis on social platforms and influencers, shape young people's awareness and understanding of political and civic matters (or lack thereof).

What to expect

As an intern, you will:

  • Work collaboratively with a supportive, remote team in a non-partisan, ideas-first environment
  • Receive constructive editorial guidance and support to refine your craft
  • Gain hands on experience in digital publishing and longform writing
  • Engage in thoughtful conversations about writing, policy and public discourse

Who we are looking for

We're looking for driven individuals with enthusiasm for breaking down complex topics into clear explanations with an appreciation for research, accuracy and a passion for writing.

Ideal candidates will:

  • Have an educational background or experience in journalism, political science, international relations, economics, or issue-based activism
  • Have strong writing skills, even if their personal voice is still developing
  • Be committed to producing 1 to 2 original pieces per month over a six month period
  • Demonstrate strong research and fact-checking skills
  • Be open to feedback and eager to improve their writing through editorial mentorship
  • Thrive in a remote, self-directed work environment
